Anisocoria
Kim Hyun-Ah

Abstract
Anisocoria is a condition where the pupil of one eye differs in size from the pupil of the other. It is one of the common signs in neuro-ophthalmology. About 20% of normal people have a slight difference in pupil size which is known as physiologic anisocoria. In this condition the difference between pupils is usually less than 1 mm. Anisocoria itself does not cause symptoms. But many disorders are accompanied by anisocoria due to iris or neurologic dysfunction that usually manifest with other, more bothersome symptoms (eg, uveitis, optic neuritis, stroke, subarachnoid hemorrhage, acute angle-closure glaucoma). Common causes of anisocoria are Horner¡¯s Syndrome, mechanical anisocoria: Adie¡¯s tonic pupil, oculomotor nerve palsy and drug. In this article, neuroophthalmologic manifestations of nonorganic disease and the various methods used to diagnose are discussed.
